Vacancy: communications officer at AGBU Europe

AGBU Europe is seeking a full-time communications officer to help develop the EU office’s communications.

The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) is the world’s largest non-profit organization devoted to preserving and promoting the Armenian identity and heritage through educational, cultural and humanitarian programmes. It was founded in Cairo, Egypt, in 1906, and today has a global reach, with a presence in close to 30 countries. Every year, AGBU supports, serves and connects over 400,000 individuals across Armenia, Karabakh and the diaspora.

AGBU Europe has activities across the continent in coordination with 12 local AGBU Chapters, as well as a growing number of partner organizations. These activities focus on education, leadership training, heritage, remembrance and European Union public affairs.

The AGBU Europe office is located in Brussels, Belgium. It helps to coordinate the activities of the organization’s chapters in Europe, maintain a dialogue with European institutions and run the organization’s European programmes.

Position

AGBU Europe maintains communications with stakeholders across the continent, managing web sites, facebook pages and a twitter account as well as mailing lists and other communication tools. Its principal working language is English.

The communication officer’s tasks will involve managing the communication tools of the organization in Europe and drafting communication documents. The officer will also be required to contribute to the organization of international events such as meetings and conferences and laise with members and partners. She or he will work under the supervision of the EU office director.

The position offered is an opportunity to contribute to addressing the pratical challenges of communicating internationally in a small but highly networked and dynamic office.

Required Qualifications

The candidate should have an interest in the activities of organizations such as AGBU.

He/she should have expertise and experience in the use of electronic and social media for mass communications, including web sites, facebook and twitter, whether through training or direct experience. The candidate should preferably be a graduate in communications studies, journalism or political science. Experience in non-profit organizing would be a definite plus.

The candidate should be energetic and driven. They should be capable of initiative and of working autonomously within a small structure. The candidate should also be an organized person, capable of working to deadlines, communicating effectively with working partners and keeping to commitments.

Excellent written English is a must; knowledge of Armenian, French or Russian is an advantage.

Candidates should also have the right to work in Belgium.
