AGBU Plovdiv awards the Bulgarian recipients of AGBU Scholarships

10 January 2018

On December 16, in the presence of almost all members of the managing board of AGBU Plovdiv and the honorary member – Araksi Magardichian, scholarships were awarded to students from Plovdiv and Haskovo who were approved by the Education Department of AGBU in New York for the academic year 2017-2018.

At the beginning of the meeting, Hripsime Erniasyan, member of the Managing Board of AGBU Plovdiv and editor in chief of the newspaper AGBU Voice presented the programs of AGBU in Armenia. She took a closer look at the Summer Internship Program (SIP) and stressed that AGBU is the only organization in Bulgaria that offers career opportunities for young Armenians. Hripsime Erniasyan showed in pictures the participation of children and young adults from Plovdiv in the summer programs of AGBU in Armenia between 2013 and 2017. She emphasized the tangible help that the Plovdiv Chapter received from AGBU – New York.

The event was also attended by Silvia Gelgelyan who, together with Hrispime Nourikian, organized a Charity Ball in April 2013 and November 2016 in order to provide funds for youngsters who want to participate in the AGBU Programs in Armenia. Silvia explained the motivation behind this charity initiative.

“We share all of this, because one day you can be in our place, because there is a time in which we all, in conscience, respond to the hand of AGBU”, concluded Hripsime Erniasian. The Chairman of AGBU Plovdiv, Mr. Rupen Chavushian, spoke in turn, emphasizing AGBU core values, with its continued focus on education that benefits young Armenians around the world. Mr. Chavushian  then handed out the scholarships to the attending students, accompanied by a gift for each of them – a brass Armenian cross.
