AGBU YP Plovdiv visits the European institutions in Brussels

2 July 2018

From June 24 to 26, three representatives of AGBU YP Plovdiv – Haik Garabedian, Vergin Hugasian and Garo Kumruian – joined an official delegation from Bulgaria to Brussels to visit the European institutions. The delegation met with several members of the administration of the European Parliament and with MEP Svetoslav Malinov. In 2017, Mr. Malinov was among the supporters of AGBU Europe’s campaign for EU engagement in Nagorno-Karabakh.

At the European Parliament, a lecture was organized by the Communications Directorate and MEP Svetoslav Malinov. The participants of the lecture had the opportunity to receive detailed information on the work of the European institutions and their importance for all EU Member States and their citizens. The respective roles of the various entities were also explained: the European Parliament, the European Council, the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Central Bank and so forth.

The YP’s from Plovdiv participated actively in the discussion that followed, asking questions and voicing their opinion on current issues related to the work of the European institutions.

The delegation also had the chance to see the official European Parliament’s plenary hall where MEPs meet and make important decisions on issues affecting the future of E.U. member states, before visiting the “House of Europe”, the museum dedicated to the history of Europe and its institutions which opened last year.

To conclude their visit to Brussels, the representatives from Plovdiv met with Nicolas Tavitian, director of AGBU Europe, who presented to them the current work of the organization as well as its upcoming projects related to the protection of human rights.
