Exclusive Education Center in Liège to Host Study Day on 1915 Genocide

14 February 2020

The Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles (FWB) is sponsoring a study day for high school teachers on the genocide of the Armenians, Assyrians and Pontic Greeks at the exclusive art and education center La Cité Miroir in Liège, Belgium.

Organised by Démocratie ou Barbarie, in partnership with the Belgian Remembrance organisation MNEMA, the event will include a presentation of the study guide on the 1915 genocide elaborated by the Armenian cultural center in Brussels, in partnership with AGBU Europe, the Centre Communautaire Laïc Juif David Susskind (CCLJ), with the support of the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles. The study guide adapted and translated from The Promise Study Guide, in reference to the film The Promise directed by Terry George, is part of an educational package available since the 2019-2020 academic year for French-speaking high school teachers in Belgium. It includes a series of online videos about various aspects of the 1915 genocide and about the historical link between Armenians and Belgium, as well as the DVD of the film The Promise.

Two exhibitions dedicated to the 1915 genocide – one designed by the Jewish Community Center (CCLJ) and one designed by the Syriac Institute of Belgium – will also be on display during the study day at La Cité Miroir.

A presentation on the representation of the 1915 genocide in strip cartoons will also be given by Yves Monin, from the Démocratie ou Barbarie.

The study day will conclude with the screening of the film The Promise by Terry George, released in 2016.
